Innovative pain solutions

What new ideas could relieve the misery caused by pain?

Pain can undermine anyone’s comfort and wellbeing. Whether it’s a persistent headache, a pulled shoulder or an acute reaction to an accident or medical procedure, it remains one of the top reasons that people visit their doctor. Left untreated it can cause serious distress. At GSK, we've developed some of the world’s top-selling over-the-counter analgesic brands and we continue to introduce new products and formulations that can help people manage or eliminate pain. That’s why we're seeking innovation partners with whom we can collaborate on ideas that could lead to new and effective pain relief solutions.

Our current needs - can you help?

Temporal and efficacy aspects

When in pain, consumers need a fast acting and effective analgesic solution. So, we’re interested in any formulation technologies that either provide quicker pain relief, extend the duration of relief or deliver the same relief at a lower dose.

New or improved formats

Anything that alleviates consumer pain interests us. A new soft gel thin film, perhaps? Or orally disintegrating tablet?

Posology

Easier dosing improves consumer compliance. So, we’re interested in any technologies that match existing pain relief to more convenient dosing.

Manufacturing technologies

We seek manufacturing technologies that enable more efficient, lower cost production or new and improved formats that offer potential benefits in drug delivery (eg, 3D printing).

Natural pain relief solutions

The evolution of natural solutions—such as glucosamine and/or chondroitin for cartilage maintenance, avocado soy unsaponifiables for osteoarthritis and butterbur for migraines— is interesting and potentially attractive provided there is a solid scientific and clinical basis established. In general, we are open to exploring natural solutions that (a) have a coherent scientific rationale and associated data package and (b) provide some added benefit in pain relief when used alone or in combination with an active pharmaceutical ingredient (eg, acetaminophen or paracetamol + caffeine).

New or improved formats

Anything that alleviates consumer pain interests us. A new soft gel thin film, perhaps? Or orally disintegrating tablet?

Novel packaging solutions

We are interested in novel packaging solutions that are more efficient or easier for the consumer to use (eg, packages for the arthritic hands) or that are safer (eg, child-resistant).
